The Recycling Team
Is a team of people who do the weekly recycling runs for our school, making sure that the bins get emptied each week.
Our Goal
- To become Sydney's most Environmental friendly school whether Co-ed, boys or Girls!!!

Current Projects
Right now the recycling team is only dedicated to the managing of the blue recycling bins. However, the school is also currently looking for a company willing to recycle cans and plastics, so that may become part of the team's future responsibilities.
The most important part of recycling is making sure that all bins are cleaned out and go in the right place, as each room needs at least one recycling bin and each staffroom needs at least one big bins (the VISY recycling bins or the new blue bins).
We are also making sure that if a room does not have a bin or does not have enough bins to support the overflowing paper or has a badly damaged bin, a new bin will be enforced into the room. We currently have some small paper cardboard bins in a cupboard in Lab 6 which are currently being placed in rooms that don't have bins.
Our responsibility
- Every Friday, we go around the school emptying and decontaminating all the blue recycling bins.
- Sometimes staff may request us do empty their bins. E.g. Maths/ HSIE Staffroom
- Put new cardboard recycling boxes in rooms that need them
- If messengers forgets to empty classroom bins, we do their job!!!
- If requested, we empty all staffroom bins
Plans
- Labeling the recycling bins so that the right bin goes to the right place!!! (In Process)
- Find an alternative to the cardboard recycling bins if we happen to run out. (In Process)
- Find another idea that can help us make sure that people don't put rubbish in the paper bins. (In Process)
- Make sure that every single room has at least one paper recycling box (Finished)
- Send notices to staff informing them that when they need their bins emptied, they can contact messengers or the Recycling team who would be more than happy to help! (In Process)

Summary: The new plan in 2011 that has been proposed which is that messengers need to clean out all the paper cardboard bins from all the rooms is probably neglected as we are currently taking that job. The PAPER ONLY signs have been laminated but we are trying to find a suitable material that can make sure it is stuck on well. A suggestion is duct tape but we couldn't find it.

Week 5A, Term 2

Week: 5A Term 2
Summary: We have so far applied on the PAPER ONLY signs onto the recycling bins however we ran out of duct tape and so one of the bins is missing a sign. This will be completed next week. We have put new cardboard recycling bins in four of the B block rooms, B10, B13, B15 and B18. We are planning to order some duct tape, gloves and find little cardboard boxes that can be used as recycling bins. A suitable idea as can be seen in many rooms is the SPEED boxes used for print paper originally.

Week 6B, Term 2

Summary: This week, we found out that one of the new Paper Only signs of the VISY recycling bin had been taken off. Now we are trying to think of another idea for these signs. This week, we cut down the time of how long we took and found out that some rooms had more than one bin so the recently constructed small bins were placed back. Currently, we have found an alternative instead of ordering is to use some of the gloves that the biodiversity are using. However, we haven't found anything for the limited stock of recycling bins so it will be probably the SPEED boxes.

Summary: We have finished applying the duct tape onto the paper signs but we need to print off another sign for the bin that is missing one after it got taken off. Currently, our idea of using the biodiversity gloves is working, however the gloves are starting to rip as these gloves are household gloves. We are still waiting for the order form in which proper gardening gloves are being ordered to be taken into effect. Despite the drizzle of rain during recycling, we still continued with the job and thus did it in the same amount of time as last week. Yay!! We have now made progress and done the deputy principals' and the principal's recycling for them. This week, we didn't put a new bin in any of the rooms as it seems like that the bins are doing well. Yay!!

This week, we also collected the CAPA staffroom and all its rooms. There happened to be a missing cardboard bin in Music 2. But because of the hurry in how everybody wanted to go home, we missed that incident. Yay!! Everybody is now collecting the certain bins they have been assigned to for the past few weeks and doing their usual job.

We finished at our usual time, however, this week, there was a treat- a box of cakes which needed to be eaten (Food Tech). Yay!! However, this week, it is a special week with a few of our members taking recycling off due to some special reasons. Considering that it is one of our member's (Chris Kim) last day, we farewelled him and decided to let him have recycling off. Through this, a new member will be joining despite that we have been saying that nobody else can join. This person (which will be announced next week) will be joining recycling and taking Chris Kim's spot as he has been pleading and was the first one to ask us if he could join. It was a slow start but we managed to finish at our usual time and along the way, we found some interesting AMC books. Wonder what's going on!! Summary: As it was the last week, most people either jigged the whole day of school or felt sick and exhausted of school so the leader (as the co-leader wasn't here) decided to cancel the recycling for the last week of 2011!!
