What is SENS?
Sustainability Educators North Sydney (SENS) is an initiative of North Sydney Council that provides support to teachers of sustainability and environmental education in the North Sydney Local Government Area. A key feature of the network is to build capacity for teachers and school environment committees, provide links to professionals in the field and facilitate information exchange between schools and education organisations. The SENS program was launched in June 2008 and the network now consists of a great mix of primary and secondary schools represented by teachers, parents and students from 12 schools in the North Sydney LGA.
The SENS network offers:
- An informal forum where teachers, students, parents and members of the wider community can discuss environmental initiatives
- Easy to understand information about government grants, rebates and programs
- An opportunity to share learning and experiences relating to sustainability and environmental education
- Professional development opportunities relating to environment and sustainability education
- Practical ideas to integrate environmental education into the curriculum
- Efficient ways to seek resources
- Partnership opportunities between schools and other organisations
- A great way to celebrate achievements!
